“Strive not to be a success, but rather to be of value.”
– Albert Einstein
As a young girl growing up on my parents’ farm in Kansas, I witnessed a great deal of cooperation and teamwork. Not only did my family work as a team to run the farm, but often neighboring farmers joined together to help bring in the harvest before an approaching storm, or to lend a hand if someone was injured or ill. The value of that cooperative spirit struck a chord with me and continues to be an influence in my life.
I am excited to be a part of the DEETER team, joining the company in January 2010. With more than 20 years experience as a writer, editor and public relations specialist, I value that cooperative spirit in the art of communication. I honed my writing skills as a reporter at The Kansas City Star. That experience shaped me as a writer and gave me news judgment and invaluable insight into the needs of journalists. I used this insight when I ventured into the world of public relations, serving as assistant director of University Communications at the University of Missouri-Kansas City. I have also worked as a freelance writer and editor.
I believe that good communication is all about building relationships, learning as much as I can about where my clients came from, what makes them tick and where they are going. I enjoy meeting people and am fascinated by learning their stories.
When I’m not at work, I’m chasing after my three children and a very rambunctious, red-haired Irish Terrier named Riley. I enjoy running, knitting, reading, and the company of family and friends.
